Another great fiddle festival – I usually get to the sessions with fiddle and / or nyckelharpa.

session fiddlers

I particularly enjoyed Seonaid Aitken and Tom Watson (of the “Rose Room” band) playing Stephane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt style stuff. I was also impressed by the quality of fiddle playing amongst the youngsters, including in the session. The Southside Fiddlers from Glasgow gave a recital – ages 6 to 18 – the 6 year old in a really good duo. But why, out of the nearly 30 in the group, was there only one laddie? The lassies are definitely in the lead in the future of Scots fiddling if that’s anything to go by …

The concerts were also great, I especially enjoyed Adam Sutherland. He taught our SMG class on at least one occasion when Eilidh was away, as well as teaching a workshop at the fiddle festival this year – he’s a great teacher. I just love his tunes – look out for his CD “Squall” which is really great.

I also have a video from the final stramash which needs linking in here …
