Time to update my March 31 post. I really did go back to the Galloway Activity Centre sauna – I really do like it. A lot of the time I have had it to myself, though there’s always activity with people on courses and in the cafe. Since then I have found others in the area and so far have visited two, run as “Sauna at the Sea“.
Here’s the original “Sauna at the Sea” near Kirkcudbright. I went on a pretty dismal day; very damp and drizzly, and grey overhead. Quite a good day for a sauna though! It’s in the corner of the “Domes by the Sea” site, next to the woods where there’s a shortish path down to the estuary.

The path goes down through the trees and is steepish in places; it would be easier in the dry! I didn’t choose the right tide time; I went near low tide, and that was really too low. Far enough into the water to swim was very muddy, as expected in an estuary. It would be fine nearer half tide, as there’s a bit of a sandy beach. There’s a nice cold shower up at the sauna though, so no need to go down to the beach if the tide isn’t right.

The second sauna of the set was the “Sauna at the Dee” near Crossmichael. It’s delightfully set down near the bottom end of Loch Ken in the woodlands of an estate. There’s excellent car parking and the sauna is in a delightful spot.

The same sauna hats are available – and a nice bamboo changing area if you need it. The loch is only about 20 or 30 metres away.

I will definitely be back!
