We decided to have a short break in Prague, since Marwyn wanted to go back and I had never been. We thought that there might be some nice Christmas markets too, but they were somewhat disappointing. The city is very pretty though (even under the onslaught of other tourists!) and I really enjoyed the Dvorak museum.

The Mosaic House hotel was very central, ideal for walking around the city, and very comfortable. We tended to eat out in the evenings in local restaurants though, especially the Restaurace Myslíkova which was just across the square from the hotel.

The hotel had a lovely lounge for coffee, cakes and drinks.
Just outside the hotel are two pieces of art hanging from wires! Great fun:

We went to the square in the centre of the old town where there’s a famous old clock, and on the way found another aerial piece of art!

The square was pretty busy, but the Christmas market, though busy, wasn’t very big:

The Charles bridge is very famous, and hence very busy especially at the old city end.

It was good to find a nice pub for a drink after a lot of walking; we really liked the ground floor bar in the Pizzeria Kmotra Kavárna.

Across the river is the Palace and St Vitus Cathedral. Again, extremely touristy!

On the way back to the hotel we came across this sign:

The Antonín Dvořák Museum is really good, for a very modest entrance fee. We spent well over an hour there; there’s a great video about the composer’s life.

Wenceslas square isn’t, it’s a big wide boulevard. There was another Christmas market there at the end.

Not far away is the Franz Kafka rotating head. It only does its thing every hour so we didn’t hand around to watch; many were waiting!

Not far from the hotel by the river is a building known as the “Dancing House” (or Fred and Ginger?).

The hotel has lots of mosaics, including this cow just above the main entrance (seen here from the stairway inside which led up to our room):

It was a nice visit but really too close to Christmas!
