Weather just about good enough for a little walk – up Castlelaw Hill (tautology from the OS map). Very windy – it had blown off the tie on the summit flag warning of firing at the range, which there wasn’t – but the worst showers missed us, as you can see in the photo of Castlelaw Fort (Iron Age). Some pretty views though!

Was at the Queen’s Hall for an excellent Altan concert – and saw Thistly Cross on draught for the first time! Dee and Geth take note! The first time we’ve seen Altan live, though we’ve listened to them on CD for a few years – and have now got the new CD 🙂

Not content with seeing Frigg and Väsen (plus Chris Stout, Catriona McKay and the Scottish Ensemble) at a superb concert at the Sage Gateshead on Saturday, I was at the Edinburgh Folk Club this evening to catch the fantastic Väsen again. It was also great to see my chum Gavin Pennycook playing support with his Celtic Nyckelharpa Project. An excellent concert – and I was lucky enough to get another nyckelharpa lesson with Olof Johansson from Väsen in the afternoon. A great day all told!

Väsen

Väsen – at Edinburgh Folk ClubRare to see two nyckelharpas in one room – but the support band has one as well.

Marwyn’s room is practically done – though the acoustics are still pretty good at present, so I might sneak in there sometimes to play! Thanks Malcolm for the work on the flooring.
