Three layers of the wood I had available is enough for the body thickness. It’s a strange shaped instrument, so there’s a lot of shaping to be done after the glueing.
I used some offcuts to pad the clamps whilst the first side of the third layer set; I had to do this layer in two pieces because of the wood I had left!
With the final piece glued I can think about the next stage. However, this is an ideal time to add pilot holes for the tuning pegs.
The shape of the instrument can also be marked out before sawing.
