Had a great few days in Switzerland – staying in Basel, and visited Bern. Fantastic weather until the last evening when the torrential rain arrived – so we were lucky. Great food (Swiss specialities of course) and drink (also Swiss – wine and beer).
The Rathaus in Basel
Basel Münster and the Rhine-powered ferry. These (there are four) are wonderful – they are suspended from wire ropes across the river, and pushed across by slanting the boat across the current.
In “Zum Braunen Mutz” beer hall, Basel
Windows of the Einstein-haus in Bern. This is where he lived when he published probably his most famous papers, including those on the photoelectric effect and the beginnings of special relativity http://einsteinpapers.press.princeton.edu/vol2-trans/154
The Untertorbrücke over the Aare in Bern
View back into the city from the Untertorbrücke
Lovely chimneys on old houses near the Aare river in Bern
Some prick trying to play the Alpenhorn – seen in a square in Bern
