I have really enjoyed visiting the various saunas that have sprung up in Galloway this year. Most of them have the possibility of a dip in a loch or the sea, or a cold shower; there are also cold tubs (not so attractive for me!). At the beginning of August I tried the one at Port William on the machairs.

This is a very well converted horse box, and moves around, so you have to pick the right day. However when I tried it the tide was way out; next time I go here I must make sure the tide is almost full.

The conversion has been done really well, and there’s enough room for the maximum six people allowed. However, as often, I had the sauna to myself.
Later in August I was back at the “Sauna by the Sea” again; it’s a bit of a walk through the woods to the sea, and I decided just to stick to the cold shower, since the beach is pretty stony at the tide state I had.

The sauna is pretty private, with a fence around it, so it’s not overlooked by the domes on the same site. I do like this place and was back again yesterday, with the evenings now beginning to get a bit darker.

The sun was getting low when I arrived; by the time I had finished the lights were looking pretty bright. They make for a lovely atmosphere.
