We travelled from Newcastle to Ijmuiden on the DFDS ferry, as we usually do when driving into Europe. We left Newcastle in sunshine.

It’s always a comfortable trip, and I love to go out on deck to watch the scenery – even if it’s just windmills! It’s good to see the Ijmuiden harbour entrance.

Our first stop was far enough into Germany to allow a visit to a Celtic museum the following day (see the later section on Celtic stuff). It was in Gonterskirchen.

A lovely place with a peaceful view from the room, and great food.

The following day we arrived in Eibelstadt, where it turned out they were about to have a wine festival, so the town was pretty busy.

Our room was in an annex to the hotel, recently modernised.

The hotel had the life size figures all over the place!

The following day we were early into the area we were staying in, so had time to visit Pfullendorf, with a lovely old town centre.

It had lots of nice features like this fountain.

Finally we arrived at the ferienwohnung and were very glad to unpack and rest.
