Second day – Lerwick

We decided to have a quiet second day, and stayed in Lerwick. I was awake early, saw the lovely sunchine, and decided to start the day before breakfast with a dip at Bain’s beach.

beach

Around six in the morning it’s very quiet; Lerwick is just beginning to get started.

lodberries

Even here in the harbour the water is pretty clear, and it was about 14C, just as it had been at Minn beach.

park

We had a good walk around town, and visited the park where Marwyn’s dad used to be head gardener. Roses that he planted are still there!

Mareel and the Museum

We walked over to Hay’s dock, where the Shetland Museum and Mareel now are. It was good to have a wander around the museum, which is excellent.

Old harbour

The old pier store has apparently been refurbished and is now in use again.

harbour

I have always loved the “Peerie boat harbour” – a harbour for small boats.

swimmers

I decided to go down to Bain’s beach again later in the afternoon; there were quite a few swimmers there. Great to meet other people (mostly women) who like cold water swimming; I discovered that there’s a “Shetland Sea Swimmers” Facebook group so I actually made my first post on there for quite a while, to share my photos. Being in the town it also seems to attract an audience of curious tourists!
