We definitely wanted to visit the tombolo at St Ninian’s Isle, and this was really the only remaining day possible. Unfortunately it began rather grey!

Even my morning dip was under grey skies for once; the cruise liner having to leave without sunshine.

The tombolo at St Ninian’s Isle is probably the best known in Shetland, and we have been there before in lovely weather (and I have even sailed my little dinghy from the tombolo many years ago). Even on a day like this there were quite a few people there, but there’s lots of room for quite a few!

There are now a couple of old horse boxes down on the beach, that have apparently been converted into saunas. However I gather that the temperature doesn’t go much above 50C so they would be a bit of a disappointment. Quite a way to the sea as well!

Down on the beach I spotted a woman with a video camera. I don’t know what she was trying to influence, it sounded a bit weird. Her partner and child were doing other things!

The sea was lovely though, even if it was a grey day.

Back in Lerwick there were a few more boats in the peerie boat harbour, together with some welcome sunshine.

Our guest house was very handy for all our exploration and family visits.
