Grey Mare’s Tail

For some time I have intended to visit this waterfall, especially as it has a pool below it that’s deep enough for swimming. I parked where the OS map marks a car park, and walked past the Black Loch to discover that cars can also now park much nearer the falls if the gate is open, no doubt for the terminally idle.

Walking past Black Loch you can see “The Eye” sculpture by Colin Rose on the other side.

The waterfall is actually not that large. It’s one of several with this name in Scotland, and this must be one of the smallest – it’s only about a 5m drop. The pool below it is lovely though, and I had it all to myself.

There were a couple of families with small children in a smaller pool a little further down. Great to get them into wild swimming early!

It wasn’t sunny very much, and in the gloom I hadn’t realised the camera would be taking longer exposures, hence these are a bit more shaky than usual! The water certainly wasn’t particularly cold.
