New nyckelharpa key tangent

Of course, when a nyckelharpa key was beginning to stick on Sunday morning at Halsway I should have got Olle to fix it – but didn’t. Of course a leaf/tangent broke when I was taking it out – so I had to make a new one. Good practice for the kontrabas which will need about 30 of these!

First cut out a piece to the right size from an old piano key:

Mark where the centre of rotation will be:

wood block

Use a chisel or sharp knife to trim roughly to shape, checking against the old one 🙂

That’s the shaping done. Now a light saw cut around the base so the peg post can be cut out and filed round.

Repeated filing and pushing it into the key make it fit nice and tightly.

Whew! It fits – and it works 🙂
