Well I think I have found the problem with the grandfather clock. The escapement is very worn. Here is one of the pallets in situ, the other removed:
Fortunately they could be removed, so I could make new ones from tin plated steel. Here they are:
One of the bearings in the brass was also worn, so I drilled it out and put in a new bush:
Unfortunately a gear on the escapement spindle is also worn, but we’ll have to see how it goes without repairs to that for now.
