Our first full day in Orkney was forecast to be wet, so we made it a museum day.
The rain did ease off a bit, and we were able to visit the Bishop’s Palace (12th century) and Earl’s Palace (early 17th century) without getting too wet – they don’t have roofs!
We also visited the rather wonderful Orkney Museum. There’s currently a special “Ness of Brodgar” exhibition with details and artifacts from the excavations that have been going on for a couple of decades at this amazing 5000 year old site. Sadly the excavations are finished for now, and were covered over just a few weeks before our visit!
The museum also contains lots of artifacts from Orkney’s history, including things like this lovely woollen hood.
